Taiwan
Taiwan is a good place to teach English. It doesn’t get all the press that other countries in Asia do but the pay here is really good and there are an abundance of jobs, though they tend to be with little kids. The night life may not be as crazy as Bangkok or Seoul but it’s still a lot of fun here.
Basic Taiwan Information: Taiwan is a great place to teach English. Though not as popular as other destination in Asia, Taiwan is a lot of fun. In Taipei, you will find a lot of expats and college students learning Chinese. This makes for a vibrant nightlife, especially since most bars offer all you can drink with the cover and Roxy 99 has free beer on Wednesday nights. Life in Taiwan is fairly cheap with most local food costing only 100 NT. Drinks are typically more expensive than food, unless you by them in a 7-11.

Salaries for teaching in Taiwan: The pay is pretty good and the jobs are in high demand. Teachers start at 600 NT an hour. Full time employment is considered twenty hours a week but you can get an ARC on as little as eight hours. If you come from overseas, some companies will give you a completion bonus or help pay for your flight. However, in general, you don’t get any added benefits. School hours are broken into morning, afternoon, and night so you could work all three and earn up to 80,000 NT per month. Private tutoring and test prep pay 1,000 NT an hour.
Requirements for Taiwan: You will need a BA from an accredited university in order to get an ARC. TEFL or experience is not required though it is preferred. Taiwan accepts a lot of first time English teachers.
Visas rules for Taiwan: You need an ARC to stay in and teach English in this country. You can get one via the school you are hired through. If you come into Taiwan on a tourist visa, you will need a visitor visa and not the 30 day landing visa. Only visitor or resident visas can be converted to an ARC for employment.
